Q:  The internet is maturing - it seems more difficult to find a niche and separate my site from others.  Are the opportunities for the small start-up disappearing?


A:  Back in the late 1800s ... before automobiles & airplanes ... it was decided to close the U.S. Patent Office, because, "Everything that can be invented has already been invented."

Niche marketing is great - BUT - instead of trying to "niche" yourself into a marketing corner, try expanding your efforts to include others into your niche by either adapting your  product to a larger niche;  or finding another audience for your products outside your niche.

When I wrote the report the report, "Get $1,000 - $5,000 Free & Clear Within 30 Days!," it was directed toward people who needed some help with their financing. -- Then, I started receiving notes like this one that I used in an ad campaign for it. -- Here's the actual email message I used ...

Cynthia P. (Pismo Beach, CA) recently bought my report, "How To Get $1,000-$5,000 Free & Clear within 30 days." -- She sent me this and I got her permission to share it with  you ...

"Just wanted to let you know, I ordered your report about making $1,000 in 30 days. -- I've made $400 in just under 2 weeks, and can't believe how easy it seems to be (well, aside from the 'elbow grease'). I've teamed up with my teenage son, and expect to really go at it over the next month or so. He is wanting money to buy his first car. -- I'm happy to have found something we can do together, and that he will now also have as a 'fall-back' in the future."

That  opened up a whole new market for the same product.

Then other readers found another market for the report and I included it in a new campaign.  -- Here's the actual email message I used for it  ...

But ... but ... but ... the report has absolutely NOTHING to do with selling on "eBay."  As a matter of fact, "eBay" isn't even mentioned once in the report.

When it comes to the  Internet, "It won't be over until YOU say it's over."  Which will mean that YOU have  given up on  the Internet ... not that the Internet  has quit being a viable market place.

Go to your public library and ask the librarian for an International Directory of Periodic Publications.  Take a paper and pencil because those directories are not allowed out of the library. -- If your library doesn't have one of the directories, ask if they can get it from  their regional lending library.

Look for publications covering the industry in the countries in which you are interested.

Contact the  "Advertising Department" and tell them you are interested in  advertising in their publication.  ASK them for their current  "media kit" which will contain their advertising rates,  closeing dates, and usually 1 or  2 current issues of the publication.

Read through those issues to find your buyers.

What I have in mind for the year ahead is taking it up a level and buying more expensive items (maybe even used aircraft) using options as you outlined in 'Selling Real Estate You Don't Own'. -- My question is: Could you refer me to any books that outline in more detail how to start doing this, or even some articles that you've written on this subject?"

Unfortunately, everything I can find about options  is either about R.E. Lease Options or Trading Options on the stock market.

To do it, all you need to do is take an option of whatever ... offer it for sale ... if it sells, excercise your option.  If it doesn't sell, let your option expire.

"I need some help please.   I am founding a company here in France in import export , and I have now a good supplier of dried dates of high quality (from Algeria in Africa). -- I can have now tons (thousands of pounds) of dried dates to sell here in France or worldwide but my big problem is that I don't have any idea how to market them. -- I would appreciate if you can give me one or two ideas how to market dried dates in large quantities in France or USA?"

Try to find a list of companies "selling" dried dates to their customers.

Every seller has to buy their dates somewhere to resell.

They will be your buyers.

"I have your export info.  I am wondering. If I get a Letter of credit from a buyer and I need to get a back to back, will the bank need to check my credit or the suppliers gredit or both?"

David ...

A Letter  of Credit is written by a bank to be paid to you.  So, the bank must pay it when it is properly documented. -- Your bank will simply confirm the Letter of  Credit with the issuing bank.
